week9
Today class is all about us and our current progress on the last and final assignments for Digital Fine Art Photography - 2011.
So from now on is all about one-on-one consultation…
This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.
Today class is all about us and our current progress on the last and final assignments for Digital Fine Art Photography - 2011.
So from now on is all about one-on-one consultation…
So over the break I was a very busy bee. Trying complete as much homework as possible and I somewhat achieved it.
However even manage some time to help out Huong with one of her assignment and took some self-portraits for her in cos-play outfits. Pics turned out great I believe and I was very proud of myself as it was my first time shooting such theme.
So today, I decided to burn onto the DVD my final clips.
- 1 done of Flinder Street Station
- 1 quick sunset
- 1 longer sunset
Images turned out nice but the quality on the disc is just average and isn’t quite how I imagine it will be. However it is safe to say I am very proud of my finals. As it was my first time, once again completing such theme (time lapse).
Time lapse is something I have always wanted to do and finally I have done it! As you can imagine, anything to do with time will take a lot of patient, time and effort to produce. Something that I hopefully shown through the works I have created.
So currently we are all on our school/Easter break.
Presentation is over and the drive to the finish line is fast approaching… which can only mean one thing… ASSIGNMENTS ARE ALL SOON TO BE DUE IN!
Luckily, there was this short break as I was able to be productive and spend time creating and further developing the final assignment. The last few days I have spent time taking various of photographs and taking them in and under different field.
I have taken some nice shots I hope to create the final for my Photography Assignment under the Theme - Time. As this is time a lot of time and effort has been put into executing it… and that was just setting up and taking the shots!
However, over the long period of time, the final result can’t get any better for me. As it was my first time attempt in producing and trying out this style (that has been use and done before in the various industries) I am very pleased with myself.
I hope all the hard work, time and effort will pay off when it’s time to hand in the final folio for the class.
I will also be using the one-on-one consultation with Stuart soon just to get a quick follow up of everything and my progress before the due date arrives.
So today is presentation day!! I went first and thankfully it went well and according to plan.
I went for about 10 minutes (give or take) and it was within the time frame given (I hope).
I presented all of my findings as intended. Showing the two created time-line and two videos which was what I intended to show/present to the class.
So YAY! This is finally over and done with… now my focus can re-direct to the last assignment which shall be tackle during our mid-semester break.
The theme that I will be covering for the last assignment will be ‘Time Photography’. I have previously trailed out my plan and idea for how I would go about capturing this mini-project theme.
I now have a fair idea of how I would go about doing so.
So today’s class we finally watched the 1 hour documentary that has been delay for the last few weeks. I really enjoy this one as it was interesting yet wasn’t to heavy on the history context of it. I noted some quotes, artists and etc.
Other than that we went through a few more functions and tools within photoshop that could help us when and if we need to do any editing.
Well that is it from me this time… next week our time will be spent watching and presenting our next assignment.
I am going to present to the class a time-line where I will briefly run through it and also talk a little bit about Vincent LaForet.
:)
So today we focus on using the editing tools of Photoshop.
According to some, this method of re-producing and re-editing a piece of work shouldn’t be done a lot as it destroy and damage the images and possibly its original context.
We were shown how to edit in a way that does not play around so much with the original piece but just enhance some lighting or graphic qualities. - So the layer tool which also use masking under the curves category was mainly the focus. Also before hand measuring the colours in the photograph was done with the colour sampler tool on the side bar.
The reading result based on the colours/area selected in the photograph is a new implement for me, as I did not know how to properly read the content. Also the use of the histogram really gave me a better insight into individual photographs before making any edits.
We were also told something that I never really considered before. As in the past when it comes to editing photographs I normally have a fast paste movement and mind frame to it. However, we were advice that we should really take some time and actually sit down and observe the image before editing. Really get your mind around how and what should get and be edit. - Allowing yourself to step back to that moment before you press the button and remember why and what you saw to make you want to capture that particular moment in time.
Something for everyone to keep in mind when and while editing.
So here is an update post of the up-coming assignment we have to do. I have a rough idea of what I want to do for the presentation/speech to the class and have done some research as well.
But I never knew how hard it is to find certain information. Especially dates and some artist information.
The artist that I could potentially do is Christophe Gilbert, that’s if I can find any information about the guy and not just his very extremely finely-done final photographs.
All the best with everyone’s up-coming assignment as well.
So today’s class we focus on masking. So during class we partner up and went to take some portrait shots around the school using the camera and tri-pod. Huong and I took a few takes (just to make sure) and after the shots were taken it was still slightly far.
It’s a great technique and no doubt I’m going to try it out again soon. Maybe incorporate it into another assignment for a different subject.
We were going to watch another 1 hour film but due to the time left after the task we weren’t able too. Film shall be watched next week.
In the photography field, there are numerous of great artists (photographers) with various of special talents, styles, techniques, skills, methods, approaches and point of views of different and similar objects, themes and/or genres.
So having to select just one will be in itself a challange as I do not have nor follow a personal favourite photographer. I believe that all (whether or not I like the photograph(s) or piece of artwork the artist has created) that in itself have certain qualities that none other artists can reproduce. As we all know every single work we create have an element (part) of ourselves within it.
For the last few days, I have been wondering how I would go about approaching this first assignment since I dont have a particular photographer in mind. However, after coming across a brilliant video on the 16.03.11 while researching where and when a few ideas and artists has recently popped to mind for the final presentation that is due in a couple of weeks time. Whether or not it works out or I can find proper infomations and be able to create it is a different story.
So this is currently still in working progress…
